Abstract
The article focuses on NASA’s Artemis II mission, launched on April 1, 2026, which marked the first crewed lunar journey since the Apollo program, sending astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen 4,700 miles beyond the moon’s far side—the farthest humans have traveled from Earth. The mission utilized the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, producing 8.8 million pounds of thrust, surpassing the Apollo-era Saturn V, and successfully completed a lunar flyby before safely returning to Earth. Artemis II included notable events such as a prolonged solar eclipse behind the moon and a safe splashdown off San Diego, demonstrating the spacecraft’s heat shield resilience during re-entry. This mission is part of a broader Artemis program, with Artemis III planned for 2027 to test lunar landing craft and Artemis IV aiming to return astronauts to the moon’s surface in 2028.
