Abstract

Many companies have recently scaled back their sustainability pledges, including goals related to the environment and diversity. This trend is due to various factors, such as political campaigns against ESG initiatives, underperformance of ESG funds, and the intangible nature of sustainability benefits. However, companies can still take meaningful action by rethinking their relationships with competitors and suppliers, rebalancing their investments to prepare for future carbon pricing, and reshaping their governance structures to prioritize sustainability. It is important for companies to acknowledge the urgency of addressing social and environmental challenges and advocate for legislation that promotes sustainability. [Extracted from the article]
