Abstract

This article discusses the problems of housing policies in Japan in the context of a post-growth society. The authors argue for a shift in Japan's housing policy, emphasizing the importance of the second-hand housing market and the utilization of existing housing rather than new construction. They explore the causes of housing problems in Japan, such as the increase in vacant houses, and examine the political and economic circumstances that contribute to these issues. The authors also discuss the impact of post-growth society on housing conditions, including the shrinking housing market, housing inequalities, and the housing pathways of young people. They highlight the relationship between a post-growth society and low fertility rates, gender issues, and population aging. The book provides insights into the housing situation in Japan and offers suggestions for addressing housing problems in a post-growth society. [Extracted from the article]
