Abstract
This article examines sustainable procurement practices within Indian original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers, and service firms, focusing on how these organizations adopt green supply chain management (GSCM) strategies post-COVID-19. Using qualitative interviews with supply chain managers from six multinational companies across manufacturing and service sectors, the study identifies distinct approaches: manufacturing firms emphasize market-driven, time-sensitive procurement aligned with stakeholder collaboration and contract management, while service firms focus on green technology integration and environmental initiatives in downstream supply chains. The research highlights that economic benefits primarily drive sustainable procurement adoption, with environmental concerns integrated through corporate social responsibility (CSR) and triple bottom line (TBL) frameworks, though social aspects receive less attention. Barriers include limited awareness, lack of standardized reporting (e.g., ISO20400), and challenges in stakeholder alignment, while enablers involve regulatory pressures, collaboration, and IT-enabled processes. The findings suggest Indian firms can enhance competitiveness by embedding sustainable procurement through negotiated stakeholder engagement and green practices tailored to sector-specific supply chain dynamics.
