Abstract
This article examines the experiences of faculty of color transitioning from part-time to full-time positions in rural community colleges, using Critical Race Theory (CRT) as a framework. Through semistructured interviews with ten faculty members at rural California community colleges, the study found that these faculty often face isolation, discrimination, and barriers in hiring processes, including biased scoring and limited support. Participants emphasized the importance of mentorship, professional development, and revising candidate selection procedures to promote equity and better support faculty of color. The study highlights the role of faculty of color as agents of change who contribute to addressing equity gaps for students of color in rural community colleges.
