Abstract
The article focuses on the disconnect between the skills employers state they seek in job descriptions and the skills actually evaluated during interviews. An analysis of 23,000 interview transcripts across 44 companies revealed that while many skills are mentioned, critical technical skills and AI experience are often insufficiently assessed, with AI-related questions asked in fewer than 3% of interviews despite its growing workplace importance. The study highlights that interviewers frequently revisit the same skills rather than covering a broader range, risking incomplete evaluations and biased hiring decisions. Recommendations include implementing structured interview guides, auditing interview content against job descriptions, integrating AI skill assessments, reducing redundancy, and training interviewers to improve the thoroughness and fairness of candidate evaluations.
