Abstract
The article examines the evolving applicability of the cultural proximity theory, which suggests audiences prefer content culturally close to them, by analyzing the popularity of Turkish television dramas (dizi) in Latin America, particularly Argentina. Through 25 interviews, the authors introduce the concept of "entangled proximities" to describe diverse audience perspectives and identify a "resigned agency," where viewers enjoy the content while acknowledging market influences. The study argues that contemporary audiences seek a desired proximity not only to the genre of the telenovela but also to the historical societies portrayed within these dramas.
