Abstract
This article investigates the relationship between attachment anxiety and nomophobia, defined as anxiety or distress caused by disconnection from mobile phones, using data from the Human Penguin Project involving 1,221 adults across 12 countries. The study finds that attachment anxiety positively predicts nomophobia both directly and indirectly, with alexithymia (difficulty identifying and expressing emotions) and perceived stress partially mediating this relationship. Additionally, gender moderates the effect, with attachment anxiety having a stronger direct impact on nomophobia in males than females. These findings enhance understanding of psychological mechanisms underlying nomophobia and suggest potential intervention targets such as emotion regulation and stress management.
