Abstract

The article focuses on the U.S. House of Representatives passing a bill that cancels previously approved federal funding for public broadcasters and foreign aid. The bill, passed 216-213, cuts $1.1 billion from public media funding, affecting organizations like PBS and NPR, which rely partly on government support, and $7.9 billion from foreign aid programs. PBS and NPR executives expressed concern about the impact on smaller and rural stations, while some senators and representatives from both parties opposed the bill. The Senate had approved the bill 51-48 after removing cuts to the PEPFAR HIV/AIDS prevention program, which has saved over 25 million lives since 2003. President Donald Trump endorsed the bill and is expected to sign it into law.
