Abstract

This article examines the use of Slack, a business communication software, to enhance continuous interaction between learners and instructors in two postgraduate courses at University College Dublin during both online and in-person delivery amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Quantitative analysis of daily Slack activity revealed consistent student engagement through public channels, private channels, and direct messages, with many students passively following discussions, thereby promoting transparent and fair communication. Qualitative feedback from students highlighted Slack's role in fostering collaboration and team spirit. The study concludes with five practical recommendations for effective Slack use in academic settings, while also noting potential concerns related to data protection and the need for active moderation.
