Abstract

This article explores the unique challenges faced when mentoring a narcissistic employee who presents with an inflated self-image, lack of empathy and difficulty accepting feedback. The developmental roots of narcissism are examined and practical strategies for mentors, including cultivating empathy, using mirroring and Socratic questioning, and focusing on emotional impact rather than blame are offered.
