Abstract
This article examines the nature and content dynamics of mobile news applications operated by prominent Nigerian television stations—Channels Television, Television Continental (TVC), and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA)—focusing on news accessibility, category variation, and news location. The study finds that these mobile apps have 100% accessibility, with news predominantly focused on Africa, especially Nigeria, and major coverage on governance, security/conflict, law/judiciary, and health/welfare. Private stations (Channels TV and TVC) show similar and higher volumes and turnover of news content compared to the government-owned NTA. The research highlights the influence of ownership type on news content and suggests that mobile news applications offer significant opportunities for enhancing digital news access and coverage in developing countries like Nigeria.
