Abstract
The article discusses the revision of a lesson on the USPHS Untreated Syphilis Study at Tuskegee to center resistance and agency over victimization. The study followed African American men from Macon County, Alabama, for 40 years, denying them treatment for syphilis. The lesson was updated to emphasize the men's efforts for justice and the systemic changes they inspired, using a card sort activity to categorize the roles of perpetrators, targets, bystanders, and allies. The revised lesson aims to empower students to recognize and address injustices in medical research. [Extracted from the article]
