How to Develop Your Leadership Style.

Abstract

The article focuses on the importance of developing a distinctive and effective leadership style by balancing two categories of social signals: power and attractiveness. Power markers convey confidence and influence but can also appear abrasive, while attractiveness markers signal approachability but risk seeming submissive. Leadership style is distinct from personality and can be intentionally adjusted by experimenting with verbal and nonverbal behaviors to create a blended style that fits different situations. The article also highlights that women and minorities often face additional challenges due to unconscious bias, requiring careful calibration of style markers to navigate workplace dynamics successfully. Practical guidance includes self-assessment, feedback interpretation, and situational adaptation to enhance leadership presence and career advancement.
