Abstract

This article focuses on the development of a systemic family clinic within a Paediatric Health Psychology service at the Great North Children’s Hospital in the UK, using Appreciative Inquiry (AI) as a method to guide its establishment and future planning. AI, a strength-based approach to organizational change involving Discovery, Dream, Design, and Destiny phases, facilitated reflection on the clinic’s achievements, challenges, and growth opportunities. Key elements identified include embedding systemic family practice, securing protected time and supervision, preparing families for sessions, expanding access, and developing consultation offers for wider staff. While routine outcome measures have yet to be fully implemented, ongoing evaluation efforts aim to enhance clinical effectiveness and service development.
