Abstract
This article investigates the emotional energy (EE) dynamics of online spectators during e-sports events, specifically focusing on the League of Legends professional league. Using the Interactive Ritual Chains (IRC) theory as a framework, the study identifies four stages of emotional energy change—emotional arousal, immersion, climax, and continuity—that form a cyclical and dynamic process influencing spectators' engagement and behaviors. Through semi-structured interviews with 20 active online spectators, the research reveals how spectators regulate their emotions to maintain positive experiences and how symbolic elements and interactive rituals contribute to sustaining emotional energy. The findings offer practical implications for e-sports event organizers and streaming platforms to enhance viewer experience by managing emotional fluctuations and fostering positive interactions.
