Abstract

This review analyzes the special section titled "Open Science, Qualitative Methods and Social Psychology: Possibilities and Tensions," published in 2023, which addresses the challenges and opportunities of applying Open Science (OS) principles—such as robustness, rigour, transparency, and openness—within the diverse paradigms of qualitative social psychology (QSP). It highlights three main themes: the impact of methodological diversity on OS engagement, the critical role of journals and special sections in facilitating OS practices, and the additional labour required from researchers to implement OS effectively. The review emphasizes that special journal sections offer flexible platforms for exploring OS innovations while acknowledging that aligning OS benefits with professional incentives and collective organizing is essential for sustainable cultural and structural change in qualitative research.
