Abstract

The article focuses on the intense rivalry between two Neapolitan printers, Domenico Antonio Parrino and Antonio Bulifon, which revolved around publishing rights, political influence, and the production of historical texts about Naples during Spanish rule. Their competition began in 1688, with Parrino securing exclusive privileges to publish a contemporary history of Naples, which hindered Bulifon's efforts to complete his own work, the Cronicamerone. The rivalry intensified with shifting political allegiances during the Spanish War of Succession, ultimately leading to Parrino regaining control of the Gazzette after Bulifon’s unpopular tenure. The conflict culminated in Parrino's victory, marked by the destruction of Bulifon's printing press, symbolizing the end of their long-standing feud. [Extracted from the article]
