Abstract
This article focuses on how generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT can assist leaders and communicators in tailoring messages to diverse audiences by accounting for underlying psychological and cultural factors, referred to as the “Hidden Who.” Drawing on behavioral science concepts such as regulatory focus, psychological capital, personality traits, and cultural cognition, the article explains how AI can generate customized communications that better resonate with specific audience segments. Practical applications include creating multiple message versions, simulating dialogues, and crafting relevant analogies to improve empathy and effectiveness. While AI tools are not sentient and require user oversight, they can serve as valuable assistants in developing nuanced, audience-specific messaging strategies.
