Abstract

The article focuses on a systematic review and meta-analysis investigating the efficacy of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) for improving communication skills among children with autism in Mainland China. Conducted by researchers from East China Normal University, the study analyzed 37 randomized controlled trials involving 2,343 participants, revealing a significant overall effect of PECS on communication skills and various collateral outcomes, such as cognitive function and social skills. The research concluded that PECS is a promising intervention for enhancing communication abilities in this population, although no significant effects were found for language development.
