Abstract
Guinea's ruling military junta has appointed a new prime minister, Amadou Oury Bah, following the dissolution of the previous government. The appointment comes amidst a general strike in the capital city of Conakry, with protesters demanding the release of a detained union leader, lower food prices, an end to media censorship, and improved living conditions for civil servants. The strike has caused social tension and the absence of a transitional government. The junta has promised to return power to elected civilians by the end of 2024, but opposition groups have accused them of authoritarianism. [Extracted from the article]
