Abstract
This article focuses on improving note-taking skills for students with disabilities (SWD) in content-area classes through the use of smartpens combined with the JIGSAW note-taking strategy. Smartpens are digital tools that record audio during lectures and sync it with handwritten notes, allowing students to review and amend incomplete notes later. The JIGSAW strategy, taught through an eight-stage instructional model, guides students to systematically record, review, and enhance their notes, promoting greater independence and comprehension. The article details the implementation process, including assessment, modeling, practice, and generalization, and highlights considerations such as device management and classroom policies. Overall, integrating smartpens with the JIGSAW strategy aims to support SWD in becoming autonomous learners by reducing the cognitive load of simultaneous listening and writing during lectures.
