Abstract

This article explicates the concept of artificial intelligence (Al) as an agent in journalism. Drawing on interdisciplinary literature, the study offers a synthesized conceptual definition and a practical framework for observing how Al systems function within journalistic workflows. It introduces a three-level typology of Al operationalization, distinguishing between assistant, collaborative, and autonomous roles. The article critiques the fragmentation of existing terminology and advocates for a unified label. This redefinition foregrounds Al's evolving communicative agency and invites further inquiry into its ethical and professional implications for journalism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
