Abstract
The article provides a comprehensive overview of the life and work of Nick Chiles, a prominent figure in early 20th-century Kansas. Chiles was an African American entrepreneur, newspaperman, and activist who fought against discrimination and advocated for racial justice. He faced challenges and criticism from white newspapers and religious leaders but remained dedicated to his cause. Chiles's newspaper, the Topeka Plaindealer, played a significant role in promoting racial uplift and challenging racist ideologies. His activism and legacy should be remembered and celebrated.
