Abstract

Publication of magazines and newsletters that were disseminating information, and voicing opinions aiming at inclusivity is an important part of the queer movement in India. It is important to note that with the advent of digitization, and the monopoly of the public sector being removed, there was a shift in representation from these queer magazines and zines. New forms of representations are seen on new media, such as on podcasts, Instagram pages, webpages, etc. where portrayal is amplified through representation in art, literature, comics, etc. These digital spaces act as an alternative discourse that is versatile and on being utilized in the right way enables the queer community and their voice to reach the masses. With these digital queer representations gaining impetus, this study addresses the question of the aesthetics of these representations. This study delves into contextualizing the history of LGBTQ magazines and zines to newer forms of representations visible in new media. The study argues that these modes of representation form a part of "activism" and hence become important to understand the politics of representation in digital spheres. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
