Abstract
This article evaluates NOVELA, a four-chapter telenovela-style educational video intervention designed to support hospice family caregivers (HFCGs) by addressing caregiving challenges through telehealth sessions. In a single-group pretest-posttest pilot study involving 59 mainly White, female, college-educated adult children caregivers from three hospices in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region, NOVELA showed trends toward increased caregiver self-efficacy and reduced anxiety, with 86% of participants expressing satisfaction. Completion rates for sessions and outcome measures approached the predefined feasibility threshold of 70%, and caregivers who completed more than two sessions demonstrated significantly greater improvements. The study highlights the potential of NOVELA to buffer caregiving distress but notes the need for further refinement, increased intervention dosage, and broader research including more diverse populations to enhance feasibility and effectiveness.
