Abstract

The article focuses on "The Promise of Liberty," an exhibition at the Peoria Riverfront Museum that explores the ideals and complexities of American democracy as envisioned by the Founding Fathers. The exhibit presents key historical documents and artifacts, such as the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, highlighting the ongoing struggle to realize the promise of liberty and equality for all. It frames democracy as an evolving system designed to serve the people and invites visitors to reflect on its unfinished work and their role in shaping a more inclusive society. The exhibition runs from January 31, 2026, to January 3, 2027, and is curated by Ken Burns.
