Abstract
This article focuses on avdeevite, a rare sodium-dominant member of the beryl group recently identified from a granitic pegmatite in Myanmar. The study compares the gemological, spectroscopic, and chemical properties of avdeevite with those of related beryl-group minerals morganite and pezzottaite, highlighting distinguishing features such as refractive index, specific gravity, Raman and FTIR spectra, and elemental composition. Avdeevite exhibits unique characteristics including pleochroism, specific Raman peaks, and higher sodium content, which aid in its identification. Due to its rarity and limited occurrence, avdeevite is expected to remain primarily a collector’s stone rather than a widely marketed gem.
