Abstract

The article reviews *Her Stories: Daytime Soap Opera and US Television History*, which examines the historical significance of American daytime soap operas over an eighty-year period. It highlights how soap operas were central to the development of U.S. television, serving as a financial backbone during the classical network era (1960s–1980s) and reflecting shifting cultural attitudes toward gender roles. The book traces the industrial evolution of soap operas from radio to web-based formats, alongside changes in narrative conventions and political themes that correspond with broader sociohistorical contexts. It also explores how soaps transitioned from a feminized form addressing postwar domestic tensions to incorporating more masculine narratives by the early twenty-first century.
