Abstract
The article focuses on two case reports of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) resulting from the use of Centella asiatica (Gotu kola) extract in topical ointments. Both patients, non-atopic Turkish females, developed eczema after applying a 1% C. asiatica ointment, which was intended for wound healing and scar prevention. Patch testing revealed positive reactions to C. asiatica and co-sensitization to fragrance ingredients, such as lavender and geranium oils, suggesting that prolonged application on compromised skin may enhance sensitization. The findings highlight the importance of evaluating potential contact sensitization in patients using cosmetic products containing C. asiatica, advocating for patch testing with serial dilutions in different vehicles.
