Abstract

The article explores the value of the services provided by dental hygienists and their role in providing evidence-based information to patients. Topics discussed include importance of accurate assessments and diagnosis, role of the American Academy of Periodontology's (AAP) classification system in the standardized diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases, codes used for optimal diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease, and avoidance of insurance dependence in treatment decisions.
