Abstract

Assessment of the protective effect against air pollution-induced skin pigmentation of an oral nutritional supplement containing antioxidants: A randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study Thus, nutritional supplements can not only protect human skin against solar radiation-induced effects such as erythema and pigmentation but might also protect against air pollution-induced skin pigmentation. Similar to solar ultraviolet radiation, air pollutants cause skin tanning.[[1]] This response is mediated by oxidative stress and it can be effectively reduced if human skin is topically treated with a mixture of antioxidants.[2] As an alternative to topical application, antioxidants may also be delivered to human skin via the oral route.
