Abstract

The article discusses the changing causes of liver cirrhosis (LC) in Japan. The study found that alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) has become the leading cause of LC in Japan, followed by hepatitis C virus (HCV)-associated LC and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)-associated LC. The article emphasizes the importance of alcohol control and abstinence as the basic treatment for ALD. It also highlights the increasing prevalence of metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and the need for weight loss and exercise as the basic treatment for MASLD. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of liver rehabilitation and the need for further research on the epidemiology and management of LC. [Extracted from the article]
