Abstract

This article focuses on a new integrative framework for understanding neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) proposed by researchers affiliated with the Mexican Social Security Institute in Jalisco, Mexico. The Hierarchical-Circular Model of Biological Memory outlines a multi-level system involving genetic, epigenetic, allostatic, psychoneuroendocrine-immune (PNEI), and interoceptive-neuronal factors, emphasizing disrupted circular causality in biological adaptation as central to NDD pathogenesis. The model introduces concepts such as "allostatic integrity" and "circular reserve" to explain individual variability and resilience, and it predicts that multi-level biomarker analysis and multi-targeted interventions will improve prognosis and treatment. This systems-based approach aims to redefine NDDs by bridging gene-environment interactions with brain network dysfunction, guiding future research toward personalized prevention and multidimensional therapies.
