Abstract

This article focuses on an evidence-based project comparing the effects of acupuncture-only therapy versus dual therapy combining acupuncture and music therapy on cancer-related pain management. Conducted at a private acupuncture practice with 102 adult cancer patients, the study used the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) to measure pain intensity before and after six weeks of treatment. Results showed that both acupuncture alone and the combination with ocean sounds music therapy significantly reduced pain scores, but no statistically significant difference was found between the two groups. The authors suggest that while dual therapy did not further decrease pain intensity compared to acupuncture alone, both modalities can be incorporated into standard cancer pain management, and future research should explore their impact on other outcomes such as anxiety and quality of life.
