Abstract
This article focuses on a study conducted in Salerno, Italy, examining the differential effects of Creative Expressive Therapies—specifically Art Therapy and Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT)—as adjunct treatments for patients with first-episode psychosis (FEP) and eating disorders (EDs). The exploratory quasi-experimental study involved 36 participants receiving ten weekly group sessions, assessing changes in well-being, emotional tension regulation, and physical tension regulation. Results indicated overall improvements across both diagnostic groups, with DMT showing greater benefits for physical tension regulation in ED patients and Art Therapy yielding stronger effects on emotional tension regulation in FEP patients. The study highlights modality-specific therapeutic responses and calls for further research through randomized controlled trials using validated clinical and neurobiological measures.
