Abstract
The article focuses on regulatory and industry perspectives regarding cosmetic substances and the multifunctional use of Gotukola in skincare. It highlights a legal opinion on the EU Cosmetics Regulation that is considered inconsistent with the regulation's wording, noting that the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) is the authority for interpreting EU law, not the EU Commission. The industry association ICADA e.V., representing small and medium-sized cosmetics companies, monitors classifications of substances like TPO (a carcinogenic, mutagenic, or reprotoxic substance) and supports its members with regulatory guidance. Additionally, the article features Gotukola (Centella asiatica), a medicinal plant traditionally used in Sri Lankan and Asian medicine, valued for its benefits in mental clarity, wound healing, and skin care, including collagen stimulation and antioxidant protection.
