Abstract

This article focuses on tardive dyskinesia (TD), a chronic and potentially irreversible movement disorder caused by long-term antipsychotic use, which significantly impacts patients' quality of life and treatment adherence. Current treatments for TD are limited, with valbenazine and vitamin E showing some efficacy, though valbenazine has notable side effects. The article presents a case report of a 76-year-old woman with Bipolar II Disorder who developed TD after 10 years of lurasidone treatment; her symptoms improved markedly following lithium therapy. While this case suggests lithium may have a role in managing TD, its effectiveness remains controversial. The article also reviews existing literature on the relationship between lithium and TD treatment. [Extracted from the article]
