Abstract

The article discusses a study on tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder often caused by chronic antipsychotic use, and highlights a case involving a 37-year-old male with schizoaffective disorder. Despite conventional treatments failing to alleviate his persistent symptoms, the initiation of phenobarbital led to rapid improvement within three days and complete resolution by day 54 of hospitalization. The research suggests that phenobarbital may have a novel role in treating refractory tardive dyskinesia, potentially through its effects on Gamma Aminobutyric Acid B receptors. Further clinical studies are recommended to explore this treatment's efficacy and mechanisms. [Extracted from the article]
