Abstract
The article focuses on new research exploring how women in senior leadership roles navigate menopause while maintaining their professional effectiveness. Based on interviews with 64 peri- or postmenopausal women leaders from the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., the study identifies a five-step "hero’s journey" framework: self-advocacy and self-care, building support networks, embracing leadership roles while rejecting social pressures, gaining confidence and new skills, and leveraging their experiences to support others. The research highlights that despite common challenges like hot flashes and "brain fog," many women not only manage symptoms but also find menopause enhances their leadership through increased resilience and empathy. The findings emphasize the importance of medical knowledge, social support, and workplace openness, while noting that organizational changes could further reduce career impacts for all menopausal women.
