Abstract

This article systematically reviews and meta-analyzes randomized clinical trials (RCTs) to assess the effectiveness of nonsurgical interventions for weight loss maintenance in adults with obesity. Analyzing data from 57 RCTs involving 13,270 participants, the study found that behavior and lifestyle interventions and pharmacological treatments, particularly with sibutramine, significantly reduced weight regain during the maintenance phase, while diet and physical activity interventions showed negligible or no significant effects. The evidence certainty was rated low to very low, with high heterogeneity among studies. The findings suggest that combining behavioral and pharmacological approaches may be more effective for long-term weight maintenance, highlighting the need for further research on multidisciplinary strategies.
