Abstract
The article examines the concept of the "subtle body" as a unifying element across various Western esoteric healing and care traditions, particularly within complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Drawing on the taxonomies developed by epidemiologist Jeff Levin, it maps esoteric healing practices—such as Theosophy, Rosicrucianism, Spiritism, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, New Age movements, shamanism, and energy healing—highlighting their shared reliance on the notion of multidimensional energetic bodies (e.g., etheric, astral, mental) that interact with the physical body and influence health. The study situates these subtle bodies within a broader historical and anthropological framework, noting their roots in both Eastern and Western spiritual traditions, while acknowledging the current lack of scientific instruments to measure them. It emphasizes the importance of a comparative, interdisciplinary approach to better understand these esoteric concepts and their implications for integrative care, without making claims about their empirical efficacy.
