Abstract

A recent study published in Nature has shed light on the causes of extreme nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, known as hyperemesis gravidarum. The severity of these symptoms is influenced by the hormone GDF15, which is produced by the fetus. The study found that higher levels of GDF15 in the parent's blood before pregnancy increased their sensitivity to the hormone during gestation. The findings could lead to preventative therapies for pregnant individuals experiencing severe sickness. However, further research is needed before these findings can be implemented in clinical practice. [Extracted from the article]
