Abstract
This umbrella review evaluates the efficacy and quality of evidence regarding nutritional interventions for oral mucositis (OM) in patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. Analyzing 26 meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials, the review found moderate-quality evidence that honey, glutamine, and propolis significantly reduce the incidence of severe OM, while zinc supplementation showed a significant reduction in OM incidence overall but with low certainty of evidence. Conversely, curcumin, vitamin E, and probiotics did not demonstrate statistically significant effects on OM. The authors highlight the need for well-designed, longitudinal randomized controlled trials to confirm these findings and improve clinical applicability.
