Abstract
This article systematically reviews and meta-analyzes randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the effects of Aloe vera on burn injuries, focusing on wound healing time, pain severity, and wound infection risk. Analysis of nine RCTs involving patients with second-degree burns found that Aloe vera significantly reduced wound-healing time by an average of 3.76 days compared to other topical antimicrobial agents, including silver sulfadiazine, without increasing infection risk. However, evidence regarding Aloe vera's analgesic effects on burn pain was inconclusive. The quality of evidence was rated low to very low due to study limitations, but given its cost-effectiveness and wound-healing benefits, Aloe vera is suggested as a viable treatment option for second-degree burns, especially in low- to middle-income settings.
