Abstract
The article focuses on how BBVA, one of Europe’s largest banks, successfully integrated generative AI (gen AI) into its operations by embracing employee-driven adoption rather than imposing centralized mandates. BBVA deployed ChatGPT Enterprise securely across the company, fostering a network of internal “Champions” and “Wizards” to promote peer-to-peer learning and innovation, while maintaining human oversight and governance to ensure responsible AI use. This approach led to rapid scaling, widespread usage, and significant time savings across various functions, demonstrating that empowering employees and harnessing existing informal AI use can transform hidden demand into a strategic advantage. The article concludes with five practical lessons for organizations seeking to replicate BBVA’s model of secure, decentralized, and human-centered AI adoption. [Extracted from the article]
