Abstract
The article focuses on CityFibre's launch of a 5.5 Gbps symmetrical broadband service utilizing XGS-PON technology, which is currently available across 85 percent of its network and expected to be fully deployed by summer 2025. This upgrade allows connected Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to offer enhanced multi-gigabit broadband packages, significantly surpassing the existing market standards. While the high speeds may not be necessary for average households, they are anticipated to benefit businesses and power users requiring substantial upload and download capabilities. CityFibre operates as a neutral wholesale provider, enabling ISPs to create competitive broadband plans, and is positioned to challenge larger industry players with its advancements in infrastructure and service offerings.
