Abstract
This article examines equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) representations on the publicly accessible websites of all 38 veterinary colleges in Canada and the United States. Using content and statistical analysis, it found that people perceived as male or Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color (BIPOC) were more often depicted without animals and less frequently shown engaged in active veterinary activities compared to females or white individuals. Comparison with self-reported demographic data from the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) revealed both under- and over-representation of BIPOC students on U.S. college websites. While most colleges displayed EDI policies and related content, only 16% included land acknowledgments, and supports for underrepresented students varied. The study suggests veterinary colleges should carefully monitor website content and accessibility to better reflect diversity and foster inclusivity for prospective students.
