Abstract
The article focuses on the intersection of digital technology and transnational law in facilitating sustainable international trade. It highlights how digitalization, particularly through the UNCITRAL Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records (MLETR), can reduce costs, increase efficiency, and support environmental and social goals aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. Legal obstacles persist because many jurisdictions still require paper-based trade documents, but reforms in places like the UK, Singapore, and Delaware demonstrate progress toward legally recognizing electronic trade documents and instruments such as promissory notes. The article argues that transnational law, supported by innovative techno-legal solutions and cooperation among states, private actors, and international organizations, is essential to harmonize legal frameworks and enable a fully digital, sustainable global trade ecosystem.
