Abstract
This article systematically reviews and meta-analyzes the efficacy and effectiveness of customized computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) orthodontic brackets compared to conventional brackets. Based on six clinical studies involving fixed orthodontic patients, the analysis found no significant difference between CAD/CAM and conventional brackets in treatment outcomes measured by the American Board of Orthodontics cast-radiographic examination (ABO-CRE) or in the number of clinical appointments required. However, CAD/CAM brackets were associated with a statistically significant reduction in overall treatment duration by approximately four months. The review also highlights variability in bracket debonding rates, higher treatment planning time, and increased costs for CAD/CAM brackets, suggesting that clinicians should weigh these factors alongside clinical benefits when selecting bracket systems.
